Hi, I’m Kase Wickman.
Writer, journalist, creative and all-around pleasure to have in class, at your service.
Oh, you want to hear more? Sure. That can be arranged.
About Kase
Hi! It’s nice to meet you. I’m Kase Wickman, and I’ve turned my passion for overthinking into a profession. Whether I’m communing with Bronies, obsessing over the 2000 cinematic masterpiece BRING IT ON, or working some creative strategy magic on a brief, I dive deep, look at every angle and come out the other side with a compelling story to tell you.
I have a BS in journalism and full-time experience in newsrooms (MTV News, New York Post, Vanity Fair), freelance (New York Times, Vanity Fair, New York Magazine, Cosmopolitan), long-form (my first non-fiction book, about the movie BRING IT ON, was published in 2022 by Chicago Review Press) and in branded content, copywriting, and content/brand strategy (past clients include Facebook, GrubHub, TIAA, Pizza Hut, IMAX, Squarespace, and more). I’ve worked in print, digital, audio, interactive, and on-camera, you name it—I’ve even been known to sketch on a Post-It when the spirit moves me.
I also like to sew (thanks, I made it, and I also made—wrote—The Wirecutter’s sewing machine guide), bake, window-shop online (and write about it in Shop Your Feelings), and whatever else has caught my attention this week.
Want to work together? Drop me a line!
Helen Gates and Mark Novo
Hold on, you wrote a book?
BRING IT ON: THE COMPLETE STORY OF THE CHEERLEADING MOVIE THAT CHANGED, LIKE, EVERYTHING (NO, SERIOUSLY) was published by Chicago Review Press in late 2022. Written by me, Kase!
With brand new interviews with the cast and crew of the most underappreciated movie of 2000, as well as commentary, criticism, and notable quotables from cultural experts and real fans, I explore the lasting impact of BRING IT ON, two-plus decades later. It’s the poo, so take a big whiff.
Publishers Weekly calls it a “peppy debut,” doesn’t that sound nice? I also chatted with Vogue about the book, and Vanity Fair published the first excerpt. Not to brag, but when I introduced a screening of the movie at the Metrograph in New York in 2023, I was told it was “the most informative opener I can remember” and also “I didn’t expect you to bring visual aides.”
A real piece of (recent) work.
